Hot Chocolate Mix

Ok, this post may seem like a total departure given my usual subject of cocktails and drinks and such, but hot chocolate is an important base for many a find cold-weather drink. There’s no point in pouring good booze into inferior hot chocolate, and if you’re not quite up to making hot cocoa from scratch any time the need strikes, this mix is a good substitute.
The recipe I’m sharing here is a favorite of mine, acquired from a friend who once gave me some as a Christmas gift. It has a much more pronounced chocolate flavor than most mixes you’ll come across, and it stores quite well. It’s so good I even drink it without liquor.
Hot Chocolate Mix
3/4 cup powdered milk
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
4 ounces bittersweet chocolateFor the best results, use the best quality chocolate and cocoa that you can find. Coarsely chop the bittersweet chocolate (as shown above), then mix.
Stirring in 3ish heaping spoonfuls to 8 oz. boiling water makes one serving. Be sure to use very hot water as you want the chocolate bits to melt.
I’ll be back next week with a cocktail or two and at least one suggestion of what to do with your hot chocolate. Happy weekend, everyone!
